The Head of the Resmob of the Surabaya Police, Iptu Arief Ryzki Wicaksana, said that ES had been named a suspect. Allegedly, ES is the mastermind behind the fake restaurant. He has about 30 restaurant names spread across various points in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. The suspect has been running a fake restaurant business since 2019.
In carrying out this action, ES contracted houses in several areas which were later converted into kitchens. “The suspect used the cloud kitchen concept. Namely a shop that only provides online delivery. However, the food delivered to consumers is different from the food offered in the application,” he said at the Surabaya Police Headquarters, Friday (18/6/2021).

He added, each restaurant has dozens of merchant accounts in the food delivery service in the online motorcycle taxi application. ES is deceiving customers by posting photos that don’t match the reality of the food being delivered. ES uses the names of famous restaurants to attract shoppers. ES was charged with Article 62 of the Consumer Protection Law Juncto 8. The sentence is 5 years and a fine of IDR 2 billion. “We have arrested the suspect at this time,” he said.
Meanwhile, ES admitted that he had opened the fake restaurant since 2019. During operation, he made a profit of Rp. 5 million every month. In running this business, ES is not alone, but there are several employees. “I ask people to register the names of restaurants in an online application,” said ES, looking down.
Previously, a viral video of a Surabaya resident who claimed to be the victim of an alleged fraudulent restaurant scam on a food delivery application. In the video, the victim states that he is ordering food on the application. However, the order did not match the menu in the application. In the video he even shows the condition of the restaurant on behalf of his place as a famous restaurant.
