The family-owned dry cargo shipping company in Bømlo is modernizing and increasing its fleet. After having two self-unloaders delivered in 2021/22, the shipping company has now ordered three new 9,400-tonne vessels.
Like “Aasfjell” and “Aasfoss”, they will be built at Royal Bodewes in the Netherlands. The design will be largely the same, but the new builds will be equipped with larger battery packs. In addition, according to shipping manager Torbjørn Torkelsen, they are being prepared for progress on methanol.
Long contracts
Although the spot market for this type of ship has weakened considerably, Torkelsen is optimistic about the future prospects as the shipping company largely serves long, fixed contracts.
Today, Aasen Shipping has nine vessels of between 6,200 and 9,400 deadweight tonnes. They mainly speed along the Norwegian coast. All are equipped with excavators.
The new ships are to be completed and delivered in December 2025, April 2026 and September 2026 and increase the fleet to 12 ships.
Earned 92 million
