Three days before his death, Aart Staartjes recorded a pilot episode of a new puppet series, co-created by his son Paul. The Sesame Streetactor would The truffles play the role of Grandpa Aart, it reports AD Wednesday.
The series was conceived for producer Harm Lust, who has already pitched an English version of the series in America. He also wanted to make a Dutch version and asked the former for this Sesame Streetpuppet players for their cooperation.
Among others, the performer of Tommie and Staartjes were enthusiastic about the story, which revolves around characters who have to present a piece of fruit or vegetables and who are located in the space. They receive Dutch artists who have been brought to them with a space bus to give a performance.
It was intended that Staartjes would play a permanent role in The truffles. “He thought the program was very funny and hoped it would get off the ground. Of course, it is not yet complete, but we were well on our way,” said Paul Staartjes.
Producer Lust says that the character that Staartjes would play “will stay in the series anyway”. “His photo will be hanging above the juice bar.” Exploratory talks are currently being held with broadcasters to broadcast the puppet show.
Actor died of traffic accident consequences
Pigtails died in hospital in early January from the injuries he sustained in a traffic accident. The 81-year-old actor collided with a car in Leeuwarden with his moped car.
Staartjes was an actor, director, presenter, writer and documentary maker. He was best known as the somewhat surly Mr. Aart, the role he had played in the children’s program since 1984 Sesame Street.
