Aaron Rodgers, who has been injured for a long time, is making such good progress that he could even return in the current season.
from Oliver Jensen,
The return of Aaron Rodgers with the New York Jets seems to be getting closer. Head coach Robert Saleh had initially announced that the quarterback would not be used in the preseason. Now, however, the coach insists on returning to the pitch earlier.
Saleh said Thursday that he and Rodgers had “initial discussions” about whether Rodgers would play in the third preseason game against the New York Giants (Aug. 25). This has not been decided yet.
“He will be included in the discussions with the coordinators and general manager Joe Douglas and we will make the best decision for the team,” said Saleh.
Rodgers moved from the Green Bay Packers to the Jets last year and tore his Achilles tendon in the first game of the season. That was the end of the season for the now 40-year-old.
Head coach praises Aaron Rodgers: “Like he’s 30”
The player seems to be making good progress now. It has not yet been used in a joint training session with the Washington Commanders because the weather was very bad and, according to Saleh, practice would have been “pointless”. But he clarified: “If the weather had been right, he would have trained.”
Rodgers himself would like to be on the pitch in training against the Chiefs, as Saleh explained: “He wanted to play, but we tried to think ahead in terms of Week 1. We have a long way to go . It will be (in “Upcoming training sessions) other opportunities for us with Carolina and the Giants.”
Basically, Rodgers is in great shape. “I think he’s in good shape mentally,” Saleh said. “And I keep telling people his arm looks like he’s 30. He’s on the gas, ready to go and he looks really good.”
