Aaron Ramsey revealed how Arsenal withdrew a new contract offer after agreeing on terms shortly before his departure from Emirates Stadium in 2019.
The Wales midfielder’s contract was about to expire, but Ramsey believed the club wanted him to stay.
So it was a surprise when he was allowed to leave for Juventus on a free transfer that summer.

The Welsh midfielder revealed how he was offered a new contract but Arsenal – then coached by Unai Emery – agreed to sign him before he was removed from the table.

talking with Timesthe 31-year-old, now at the French club Nice, said: ‘It all happened … I accepted a contract that was proposed to me.
“Things have been quiet for a few weeks. I was saying to my agent, “Let’s do this” and suddenly the contract was gone. So there was nothing to sign or agree on.
It was a rough start for a few months with Unai [Emery]. As the season progressed, he played more and played very well.
Then came January and I had to decide whether to go ahead and see what happened or whether to move on [to sign] somewhere [else]. ‘
Juventus were interested in Ramsey and offered him a deal worth around £ 400,000 a week, which he accepted in the summer of 2019.
Ramsey now plays for Nice in Ligue 1 after struggling to make a big impact at Juventus.

Ramsey spent 10 years with the Gunners, scoring 64 goals in 369 appearances and helping them clinch three FA Cup wins.
But despite the way he came out, Ramsey, who hailed in tears on the Emirates Stadium pitch, feels no animosity towards his former club.
I have no bad words or bad feelings towards Arsenal. They are still an important part of my life and I still take care of them and am very happy to see that they are doing so well, “he said.
