Aaron Boone on benching Gleyber Torres: “I hope he learned his lesson”

New York Yankees manager, Aaron Boone spoke this Saturday about the sanction he imposed on Venezuelan second baseman Gleyber Torres this Friday.from which he hopes he has learned his lesson.

Following a controversy in Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, when Torres decided not to run a hit that initially looked like it would become a home run and then ignored the third base coach on a run and was thrown out at home, Boone said he was right in taking him out of the game for disciplinary reasons.

In fact, after the action, in which Torres gave way to his teammate Oswaldo Cabrera in the fourth inning of said game, the strategist told in a press conference why he made the decision.

“I felt like I had to do it at that moment. I’m not going to go into the decision making process. I just felt, at that moment, that I had to do it. It’s that simple.“That’s it. Let’s move on. We’ve talked about it. I hope it serves as a learning moment for everyone,” Boone said of his decision.

In the same context, Torres spoke to the media and apologized to both Boone and the fans, taking responsibility.

I thought it was a home run. Unfortunately, it was just a single.I’m really sorry for what I did tonight, especially to the fans and also to my teammates. I’m a human being. I made a mistake. I feel like whatever I did tonight, I’m going to learn a lot.“I just want to compete with my teammates. I want to play well,” said the Caribbean player.

A similar controversy had already occurred with Gleyber Torres last June when he was removed from the lineup due to his poor performance, but this ended up coinciding later with an increase in his productivity.
