In July 2022, Melina* and Claudio* met via an app and then stayed in touch via Snapchat. A few weeks later, they met for the first time in Baden.
Threatened for several months
Claudio then demanded money from Melina. At first she refused, but in the following year Claudio began to threaten her several times. He told her that if she didn’t give him money, he would call a colleague who would destroy her family with a baseball bat. This is what the Aargau public prosecutor’s office said in a penal order.
Melina feels so intimidated that she regularly transfers him partial amounts of between 40 and 200 francs between August 2022 and May 2023. In total, she gave Claudio 12,210 francs before informing the police. The man knowingly and intentionally persuaded the woman from Aargau to hand over money to him that he was not entitled to. In doing so, he committed a criminal offense.
Hefty punishment for blackmailers
He is sentenced to a conditional fine of 2,400 francs, suspended for a probationary period of two years. He must also pay a fine of 400 francs. In addition, there are penalty fees of 900 francs and police costs of 160 francs.
Melina will not receive the transferred 12,210 francs back for the time being, as the convicted man does not recognize the civil claim and is therefore referred to the civil courts. (argoviatoday)
