Doctors in protective suits and tapes to demarcate risk areas, the Bremgarten barracks (AG) are affected these days by an epidemic of gastroenteritis. On Friday, some 23 soldiers, who showed symptoms, were isolated.
“They have been separated from the rest of the troop and are being cared for by specialized medical staff. For the moment, we cannot communicate on the exact cause,” said army spokesperson Delphine Schwab-Allemand. The recruits concerned are subject to a thorough examination.
It happens “regularly”
The Federal Department of Defense was informed in early October that such an outbreak had spread to a barracks. “Noroviruses cause gastrointestinal infections. The virus spreads quite easily from person to person, and there is no vaccine. This is why there are regular outbreaks in communities such as barracks, homes and hospitals. Norovirus infections are most often observed during the winter months,” adds the communicator.
