Aaipop doesn’t stop anyway. The festival will be held again next year. The organization of the largest Frisian-language festival stated this during a press conference on Monday. It is an April Fool’s joke, with a serious undertone. “It’s a joke now, but maybe not in the future.”
“Aaipop has caused a lot of controversy in recent days,” says Jeroen Postma of the organization of Aaipop, which is held in Nijland. “We received a lot of responses, but recognition of the problems was the common thread.”
The organization announced at the beginning of this week that there was no future for the festival due to increasing regulatory pressure, rising costs and a shortage of volunteers. Postma then strongly denied that it was an April Fool’s joke.
According to Postma, there has now been good consultation with the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, “but there are gains to be made as far as events are concerned. We have also spoken with various provincial parties about the suffocating rules.”
