The Independent Public Revenue Authority proceeded to specify the measures to seal offending fuel stations for two consecutive years and the conditions for publicizing the offenders’ personal information.
Specifically, by decision of the Governor of AADE, Giorgos Pitsilis, the process of two-year sealing of all types of fuel stations is specified when the controlled station:
- possess and trade adulterated fuel,
- found guilty of fuel smuggling,
- obstruct control by use of force or threat.
It should be noted that in cases where the above violations are detected by another public auditing or prosecuting authority, the Customs Service of AADE is informed, in order to seal the gas station.
What happens to the owners of the gas stations
The owners of the gas stations that are sealed are prohibited from being active in any other way or capacity or from participating in the business of trading or distributing energy products for two years from the detection of the violation, while the details of the violators are made public with a two-year posting on the AADE website.
The entire amount of fuel found in the facility at the time of sealing is pumped out and transported, either for re-refining or, if re-refining is not possible, for destruction at a licensed hazardous waste disposal facility.
“We move forward decisively and with absolute commitment to the goal of combating the smuggling of liquid fuels and the unfair profit-making that takes place at the expense of the state, consumers and healthy businesses,” said the Governor of AADE.
“We are shielding the market and protecting consumers by establishing a strict framework of measures against smuggling and adulteration of fuel, involving both refineries and fuel trading companies, through the due diligence measures they must take when working with service stations ».
