Fulda – On Thursday evening (October 21, 2021) there was a fatal consequential accident on Autobahn 7 * in the southern direction of travel at the Hünfeld / Schlitz junction. This was initially triggered by a minor accident between two cars.
According to the Petersberg motorway police, the accident occurred around 6:20 p.m. due to the strong storm in Germany *. As a result of the accident recording and the recovery of the vehicles, a backlog formed on all three lanes of the motorway. A 30-year-old Romanian truck driver residing in Kassel overlooked the end of the traffic jam around 7.24 p.m. and crashed into a stationary truck.

The force of the impact pushed the trucks in front of each other, which is why a total of four trucks were involved in the rear-end collision. The drivers of the front three trucks were only slightly injured and were able to leave their vehicles. The truck approaching the traffic jam and the truck at the end of the traffic jam suddenly caught fire for an as yet unexplained cause and some of them burned out completely.
The Romanian driver was trapped in the traffic accident and could not be released from the driver’s cab. He succumbed to his serious injuries on site. Two first aiders were also brought to a nearby hospital with smoke gas intoxication.

The extinguishing work turned out to be difficult due to the loaded pellets and lasted until early Friday morning. Afterwards the salvage work began, for which a crane was required. This was followed by a complete closure of the A7, which lasted around six and a half hours. For so long, traffic was diverted at the Niederaula junction.
Numerous workers from the fire brigade, rescue service, the Fulda motorway maintenance authority and the two police motorway stations of the East Hesse police headquarters were on duty. The truck accident caused property damage of around 700,000 euros. (as)
