A7 between Heerenveen and Groningen closed due to burning cranes | inland

The A7 between Heerenveen and Groningen was closed in both directions on Thursday because a mobile crane is on fire near the Frisian village of Frieschepalen. Firefighters are working to put out the fire. The road is expected to reopen around 11am.

Since the tires of the crane truck could explode, it was decided to close the road between the Drachten-Centrum exit and the Frieschepalen exit. No one was injured by the fire. “The crane operator is shocked, but he’s fine,” says a spokesman for the Fryslân Security Region.

Around 8:15 there was more than an hour’s delay from the Drachten-Centre in the direction of Groningen, reports Rijkswaterstaat. Traffic is then diverted from the Heerenveen interchange via the A32 and A28.

There was also a further delay on the A7 but then due to glass on the road. That’s why the road from the German border to Groningen is closed between Sappemeer and the Westerbroek exit.

The road closure will likely last until 10am, the ANWB reports. The delay was up to an hour.
