From next week, the junction of the A7 Würzburg-Ulm motorway at Giengen will be freely accessible again in both directions. The city announced on Saturday.

At the Giengen junction (Heidenheim district), the motorway has been renewed over a length of ten kilometers. The lane width was adapted to the applicable safety standards and adjusted from 11.5 meters to 12 meters. The measure began in mid-October 2018, the total costs are around 52 million euros.

The city of Giengen had the opportunity to renovate the road surface on the B492 at the same time as the exits were closed and to create new intersections that would cope with the expected future traffic volume, said Giengens Mayor Dieter Henle at the official clearance.

Bypass with threading track in spring

The reason for the renovation of the A7 was a heavily damaged concrete pavement between the Giengen / Herbrechtingen and Niederstotzingen junctions on both lanes.

Only the bypass planned a little later with a threading lane for right-handers at junction L 1079 / B 492 has to be postponed into spring. The bottlenecks in terms of material delivery could not be prevented, says Henle.
