A69 Motorway Protests: Facts and Concerns About Radical Elements – Is ‘Ramdam on the tarmac’ the Next Riot?

Facts –

Opponents of the A69 are organizing “Ramdam on the tarmac” on Saturday, a demonstration declared at the prefecture. Information from territorial intelligence raises fears of excesses linked to the presence of radical elements in the procession. Environmental groups denounce the government’s “fait accompli” policy.

The recent history of environmental protests has shown that the worst-case scenario is never certain. On April 22, several thousand opponents of the A69 motorway gathered peacefully at the Saïx camp, on the outskirts of Castres, to proclaim their refusal of a project which threatens to concrete over 400 hectares of arable land. The procession declared at the prefecture had marched smoothly, along the 53 kilometers of the motorway route planned for 2025. That day, the organizers blamed Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, for having designated the construction site of the ‘A69 as the “next objective of the ultra-lefts” after the surge of violence observed in Sainte-Soline on March 25.
