The fleet of the federal highway police will be modernized. At the end of 2020, a first set of orders had been validated, with a total of eleven stripped V90s to provide assistance and patrol, but also fifteen Audi A4s, also stripped, to serve as action and control vehicles. To this must be added three assistance vehicles of the VW Transporter type, 33 motorcycles and 11 action vehicles, the model of which has not been specified. “The production of motorcycles is underway”, specifies our interlocutor.

Additional investments will be made as explained to the Chamber by the Minister of the Interior. A first budget tranche provides for the acquisition of 21 additional A4s for control and V90s for patrols. “When additional budgets allow, priority has been given to the acquisition of 16 action and control vehicles (anonymous type), 9 vans and 4 assistance and patrol vehicles (striped VW Transporter type)” detailed the Minister Annelies Verlinden.
These vehicles will be delivered between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, depending on the delivery times of the importers and the length of the fitting-out period necessary for their specific equipment. “The Volvo V90s on order are identical to the cars the traffic police already have. They are used for reporting incidents, for recording accidents and for monitoring, ”explains the police spokesperson. With a displacement of 1969 cc, they develop a power of 320 hp and run on gasoline.
During the period 2017-2020, a total of 318 new vehicles were acquired by the traffic police, including 61 Volvo V90? 58 Audi A4 and 157 BMW R1200RT and R1250RT motorcycles.
