Yesterday, Wednesday (23rd) around 12:45, a 38-year-old drove his Peugeot on the BAB 3 in the direction of Würzburg in the middle of three lanes. At the Kelsterbach interchange, he wanted to leave the motorway in the direction of Federal Road 43 and moved to the exit in front of an articulated lorry.
However, he hit the central reservation buffer hard and was thrown back onto the main lane from there. It drove past the semi-trailer, collided with it, was pressed against the crash barrier, spun several times on its axis and finally stopped in the right-hand lane of BAB 3. The Peugeot was completely destroyed, debris lay strewn across the motorway and the B43, which have had to be completely closed for this reason and forthcoming relief work.
The seriously injured 38-year-old was rescued from his vehicle by rescuers. The closure of the motorway in the direction of Würzburg and the Kelsterbach junction created an approximately ten-kilometre-long backwater.
