During a chase on the A2, a suspect threw potentially explosive material from a car. The highway is closed in both directions at Vianen.
The police say that officers wanted to check the car, after which it drove away at high speed. A bag was also thrown from the car. Because the agents suspect that there may be explosive material in the bag, the Explosives Reconnaissance Team has been called in to check the contents of the bag.
The police have taken a car off the road on the A2 near Amsterdam. It may be the car that was involved in the pursuit. The passengers have been arrested.
It is not clear how long the highway will remain closed.
