A2 motorway. The gates will scan the registrations

The gates on A2 will read the tables. According to Puls Biznesu, Autostrada Wielkopolska wants to implement an electronic toll system to make the journey smooth.

The holiday period is usually the time of traffic jams before charging tolls at highway gates. Some licensees are introducing mobile applications that read tables to smooth traffic. This is the case, for example, between Krakow and Katowice as well as Gdańsk and Toruń.

On the route between Konin and Świecko drivers must often stop to pay in cash or by card. There are as many as 10 toll points (PPO) on the 255-kilometer section. That is why Autostrada Wielkopolska (AWSA), concessionaire of the Konin – Nowy Tomyśl section, and AWSA II associated with it, managing the Nowy Tomyśl – Świecko route, are preparing changes.

“The company is analyzing the possibility of modernizing the toll collection system by implementing the option of electronic payment with the use of automatic license plate recognition technology” – it was written in the AWSA report for 2019.

– Autostrada Wielkopolska is working on an electronic system that will make it easier for all drivers, both cars and trucks, to pay tolls at the gates. We want the implemented system to function in a formula convenient for drivers and already known from other highways – Anna Ciamciak, AWSA spokeswoman, told Pulsowi Biznesu.

For example, the stop & go formula consists in the fact that after installing the application and completing the formalities, the driver, approaching the gates, stops, and after verification by the system, goes unhindered.

– Ultimately, we would also like to implement the slow & go formula, i.e. passing through PPO without stopping the vehicle – he adds.

And he emphasizes that the company has a technical dialogue with the Ministry of Infrastructure. Decision on the date of implementation of the so-called videotolling and application payments will be made after its completion.

The group already has experience in automatically checking tables. As it reminds “PB”, it installed devices for this purpose on, for example, one of the bridges between Września and Konin. They are used to identify trucks whose drivers violate the overtaking ban. The police and Road Transport Inspection have access to data from the system.
