A2 closed at Nieuwegein after a major accident, passengers fled

The A2 between Nieuwegein and Utrecht is completely closed due to a major accident involving several vehicles. The fire brigade, police, ambulance and trauma helicopter are on site. The accident happened around 11 PM.

Several jerry cans containing an unknown liquid were found in one of the cars. It could be explosive material. The Utrecht security region took precautionary measures and closed the A2 completely, a spokesman said. The car has been dropped off and emergency services are investigating.
