A15 SoC benchmark reveals the extent of graphics performance

The iPhone 13 reveals the extent of its graphics performance. According to a benchmark, the A15 Bionic chip offers performance up 14% compared to the SoC of the iPhone 12.

While the presentation of the iPhone 13 is fast approaching, a first benchmark of the SoC A15 has just appeared online. This benchmark GFXBench (Manhattan 3.1) tests the performance of the graphics circuit which is integrated into the chipset.

Relayed by the Tron leaker, this benchmark therefore measures the extent of the graphics performance of the new iPhone. In the first round, the A15 chip developed by Apple achieves a score of 198 fps.

A15 chip delivers 14% better graphics performance compared to A14

For comparison, the iPhone 12 does not exceed 146 fps in a similar benchmark. De facto, the A15 Bionic SoC is doing well slightly better than A14 chipset which equips all iPhone 12. The performance gain on the graphics reaches 13.7% from one year to another.

We should therefore not expect a revolution in the field of graphics. Nevertheless, the iPhone should remain well ahead of all Android smartphones of the market on the graphic part. This year, however, Apple should deal with a major competitor in terms of graphics. The Exynos 2200, whose GPU is signed AMD, obtains a score of 8134 at 50 fps for 3DMark Wild Life. It thus surpasses the A14 chip of the iPhone 12. With this homemade SoC doped with an AMD GPU, Samsung hopes that its future Galaxy S22 can stand up to the iPhone 13.

As the Tron leaker points out, the second round of the benchmark obtains very different results. During the second round, the A15 Bionic chip does not exceed 140 or 150 images per second. The informant attributes this decrease to a limitation put in place by the manufacturer.

This restriction is intended to prevent the smartphone from overheating in the hands of the user. These software limitations are not uncommon in the field of mobile phones. They allow high performance performance without compromising component integrity.
