A12 near Zoetermeer partially closed for days due to work on Nelson Mandela bridge | inland

The A12 will be partially closed in both directions Monday to Thursday evenings and nights this week due to work on the Nelson Mandela bridge, Zoetermeer municipality reports. The bridge had to be suddenly closed in early December due to a possible collapse.

The highway remains open during the day; closing is scheduled from 21:30 to 5:30. At least one lane will remain open to traffic, reports the Municipality, which warns of traffic disruption due to the fewer lanes available. Rijkswaterstaat also warns via Twitter of possible delays due to road closures.

The road is to be partially closed for preparatory works for the bridge. Sheet glass is being removed from the roof in preparation for the removal of the portion of the bridge over the highway, the municipality wrote.

In early December Zoetermeer immediately closed the bridge over the A12 because there was a possible risk of collapse. The reason for this were two investigations into cracks in the construction.

The Nelson Mandela Bridge is an important link to the city of Zoetermeer and the only way to get to Zoetermeer station, among other places. In addition to the A12, a railway line and the RandstadRail also pass under the bridge.
