Her name is Camila Putero, she is from Nicole and she is 27 years old. In April of this year he decided to donate blood as part of the campaign made by the family of Juanse Olmos, the child who asked for a bone marrow transplant.

But it was last October 18 when she received a special communication: “They called me from INCUCAI to tell me that I am compatible with a patient to donate bone marrow,” said Camila in a conversation with EL NORTE And he said: “Honestly, I didn’t believe it at the time. With this thing about them calling from fake accounts, I didn’t think it was true The next Monday, we talked a lot and then I realized it was true.”

“They told me that I am compatible with a patient from abroad and that we need to take blood samples again to confirm the result and therefore continue with the procedure. They asked me personal questions about my health and we arranged for Tuesday to go to the hospital to do the extraction,” he said.

“Tears fell when I was listening to what they told me, I laughed with happiness even though I am still not aware of what is happening. Something grabbed me in the chest and I had to go at that moment to follow the steps,” she said, shocked.

The young woman added: “Tuesday I went to the San Felipe Hospital to have a new drawing done, the news surprised them. The attention they gave me was fantastic and they were very supportive and professional.”

Regarding the procedure to follow once the results are in, he said “if this new sample proves that we are compatible, I will have to go to Buenos Aires for clinical trials to control my health condition. As soon as everything is fine, we coordinate again to go do the bone marrow extraction. “

Two ways

Camila explained to this medium that the extraction can be done through two procedures: “One is pre aphaeresis (or peripheral blood) which is a blood draw in which a machine separates the cells from your blood and through the other arm they return that blood to you. And the other way is over bone marrow, with anesthesia. Both are safe and have no pain, contraindications or risks. “Each patient will choose the procedure they prefer.” He also assured that it is difficult for him to sleep because of the anxiety this situation causes him.

Regarding the identity of the patient, the young woman said “the only thing they could tell me is that he is a man from the United States.” We could know a year after the transfer and if both parties agree. ” And he concluded: “I would like to meet the patient. From my place I think about his family, his friends, his environment. It makes me aware of knowing who he is and getting to know him. “It would be very exciting.”

“Give Juanse bone marrow”

The campaign that made Camila donate blood for the first time was the campaign carried out in our city by Juanse Olmos -#DonaMedulaPorJuanse-, the eight-month-old child who suffered from Severe Associated Immunodiciency and was admitted to the Rosario Children’s Sanatorium awaiting a bone marrow transplant.

Unfortunately, and after an extensive fundraising campaign that crossed borders, Juanse died two months later.“I had never donated blood, when the campaign started I went without thinking, we all wanted to be compatible with it. And seeing everything that moved the family, I think it moved us all,” Camila said.

According to what she said, Julia Vivas – the mother of Juanse Olmos – called her and expressed her happiness about the news: “You have no idea how important it is for your family to answer the phone and be told to you that a donor has appeared. , he assured.

“That’s why when they contacted me I couldn’t believe it had been in such a short time. I also thought ‘how did I not do it before?’, they are a few minutes that affect you a lot, but I assure you that nothing compares to the satisfaction of you can change that small donation you make for someone. life.”

Now all that remains is to wait: Camila said that once the extraction is done, she will have to wait 90 days until she knows if her analysis is compatible with the American patient .
