A young skier future winner of the Tour de France? – Sports Infos – Ski

Joergen Nordhagen is the talk of the town

After blowing up all his rivals in the 20km (classic) at the Planica World Championships in February 2024, Joergen Nordhagen left cross-country skiing, at just 19 years old, through the front door.

All this to embrace a career as a professional cyclist within the Visma Lease a Bike training. And the prodigy will soon be noticed, especially in the mountains, where his small size works wonders.

“In the future, he could win the Tour de France says former pro Mads Kaggestad, who is not the only one impressed by Nordhagen’s skills.

“I think the comparison with Jonas Vingegaard is appropriate. He is perhaps the greatest talent in the entire history of cycling in our country”adds journalist Magnus Drivenes.

Nordhagen does not want to get carried away

“This is my first season in cycling, so it’s difficult to know what to expect, so we’ll see next year when I have more time to dedicate to my new discipline during the winter.

Anyway, lately everything has been going really well. It was a slow start, but lately I’ve really grown. Every weekend there’s something positive to take away and that’s really nice.”

Joergen Nordhagen also impressed his bosses who decided to integrate him into the A team from next season. He will thus be able to rub shoulders with Jonas Vingegaard, Wout Van Aert and Matteo Jorgenson.

“It means meeting and competing with the best. They are great champions and things change quickly for me. When you see them competing you are impressed.

I hope I can do some races with them and learn as much as possible and of course I want to be up to the task.”

What about the Tour de France?

“It’s the most important race. Obviously, I hope to aim for long-term success but for the moment it’s too far away. The goal is to train, to progress, to follow the path”

And for the first time in his life, Joergen Nordhagen will spend a winter without seeing snow. Like many professional cyclists, he will move to Spain in order to work in good conditions.

The plan is to prepare for the season in the best possible way, and I think it will happen in a very natural way.” concluded Joergen Nordhagen.
