a young Scotsman climbs the Matterhorn at age 11, …

He is only eleven years old but he achieved a goal unattainable for many of us: Jules, a Scotsman, reached the top of the Matterhorn at the beginning of July. He thus became the youngest person to have climbed this iconic mountain in the Swiss Alps, 4478 meters high.

Of course, this did not happen on a whim. According to BBC, Jules Molyneaux trained a lot to achieve this goal and six months ago he began to believe that it was possible. He therefore took advantage of the confinement to prepare himself more physically.

The boy was accompanied by his father Chris and two local guides. “It was a really tiring experience and my legs were like jelly after the climb,” he told the BBC. “The sunrise is worth it when you go up.”

The child’s achievement is impressive, especially since the Matterhorn is considered a particularly dangerous summit. According to Edinburgh News, a German mountaineer was killed the very day of their ascent.

Although there is no official record, the Matterhorn Museum in Zermatt has confirmed that Jules was the youngest to climb this pyramid. Normally, local guides do not allow children under 16 to attempt the climb. Jules had to undergo a series of tests to convince them he was capable of it.

The young climber ensures that the record was not in his objectives. He said the goal was “to have as much fun as possible”.
