A young man in his early 20s died in a snowmobile accident in Vesterålen on Thursday evening.
– The driver of the snowmobile has been confirmed dead in hospital, the police write in a Twitter message at 23.11.
Relatives have been notified.
The police first reported the accident at 20:17.
The man was the only person involved in the accident and was taken to hospital.
– The deceased is a man in his early 20s. Around 8 p.m., the police received a report of an accident. The driver was taken to the hospital, where he was eventually confirmed dead, says Kjetil Kaalaas, operations manager in the Nordland police district to VG.
Operations manager Kaalaas informs VG that the incident happened in a private area or yard, in the immediate vicinity of a residence.
– Crime scene investigations have been carried out, and a case has been opened to investigate the cause of the accident, says Kaalaas.
It was someone who was at the scene who reported the accident.
