The 32-year-old farmer from Salmanovo Kalin Kolev brought a watermelon weighing 18.2 kilograms and won the competition for the biggest watermelon in this year’s edition of the traditional holiday in the village, shum.bg writes.
In second and third place in the competition were placed watermelons weighing 15 and 12 kg.
“Unfortunately, there are only three or four left to watch a total of ten decares of watermelons in our village and the reason is the water. Watermelon is not possible without water, and here we have a serious problem with the channel of “Irrigation Systems”. They say it’s broken, but who will? We can’t do it alone.
I would do everything to release water next year, because this livelihood of the people, which was years ago, is no more “, said the mayor of the village Yordan Kirov.
Due to the small number of producers, this year the regulation was changed and not only producers could participate in the competition for the biggest fruit. However, only three took part in the competition.
Today’s 32nd edition of the watermelon festival traditionally passed with a very good mood, songs and dances, beer and barbecue. Amateur groups from the Ruse village of Nikolovo, from the community centers in the villages of Khan Krum, Troitsa, as well as groups from Salmanovo appeared on the stage.
The organizers of the event were the Municipality of Shoumen, the City Hall in Salmanovo and the Community Center “Development – 1895”.
