Coline, who practices a genre between autobiography and fantasy and often features in her boards two characters who could be sisters, has just been awarded in Angoulême. (© Coline HEGRON)
At 22 years, Coline Hégron, native Contrières, south of Coutances, is the winner of the Young Talent competition 2021 from Angoulême Comic Festival.
More than 500 competitors
It is not the Golden Fauve, but this award is encouraging for the Manchoise, who is currently student of the European School of Image (EESI), installed in the French capital of the ninth art. Once again this year, more than 500 applications were received, and more than 1,500 boards were examined by the jury …
I had never participated in this kind of competition before, I told myself that being still a student, it was the right time. I am delighted and a little surprised to be the winner, because there were some great competitors!
A passion born with Tom-Tom and Nana …
Coline did all her schooling in Manche: college in Montmartin-sur-Mer, Lycée Leverrier in Saint-Lô, and she developed her taste for drawing very early on, with plates and bubbles if possible. “With my brothers and sisters, we had fun creating comics. It was naive, we made collages, but it never left me, ”says the one who, as a child, read Tom-Tom and Nana, these two rowdy and mischievous children born under the care of Bernadette Desprès.
In this period unlike any other, if she admits a certain frustration at not having experienced the usual awarding of awards, the young woman consoles herself by telling herself that having been awarded gives her a free hand to decorate the pavilion. of the next Young Talents competition. She will also be able to exhibit her work there.
In the meantime, she is preparing an editorial dossier to send to publishing houses. She is also part of an artists’ collective in Angoulême.
