The Bulgarian Mikhail Yalama from the Bolgrad municipality died at the front in the Donetsk region. After being seriously injured on January 9, he died during a medical evacuation.

The deceased soldier was buried in his native village of Zaliznicnoe (Bulgaria) on January 17. Relatives, residents of the village and representatives of the municipal council gathered at the funeral, BTA reported.

45-year-old Mikhail Yalama is left with a widow and three children. He was mobilized in May last year in the Marine Corps, the Bolgrad District Military Administration noted on its website.

The village of Bulgariyka was founded by Bulgarian settlers in 1861. In 1947, the name was changed to Zaliznicnoe. Nearly 3,500 people live in the village, 80% of whom are Bulgarian.

In October, another Bessarabian Bulgarian from the Bolgrad region died in defense of the Donetsk region. Sergeant Victor Gorban, a native of the Bulgarian village of Novi Troyan, was killed while performing a combat mission.

Just a week earlier, it was found out about two more Bulgarians from the Bolgrad region – Alexander Kalov and Igor Popaz, who died while performing combat tasks in the battles for the Kherson region.
