Rolls-Royce plans to release 2 new electric cars

Rolls-Royce plans to launch two new electric vehicles by the end of this decade. The ultra-luxury brand will switch to a fully electric lineup by 2030, with internal combustion engine models discontinued after the 2031 model year.

Rolls-Royce was the first major ultra-luxury brand to launch an electric car, ahead of rivals such as Bentley, Aston Martin and Ferrari. The Specter electric car, which was introduced last year, received a starting price of $ 420,000 (about 38.6 million rubles).

The company plans to release two more new electric vehicles, including a full-size crossover, before the end of the decade. By 2030, all Rolls-Royce cars will be electric, and ICE models will be phased out.

The brand’s former CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said that electric propulsion is ideal for Rolls-Royce. “It is quiet, very powerful and delivers an even smoother ride than Rolls-Royce customers have come to expect,” Müller-Ötvös said last year.

However, Rolls-Royce will continue to support its V12 models in the years to come. More than 60% of cars sold by the company in the first quarter of 2024 were equipped with this special unit.

Sales of the Cullinan crossover, one of the brand’s flagship models, contributed to sales growth in the US and other key markets. This model was recently updated with new LED headlights and a sharper front design, as well as 23-inch wheels. The model is still powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V12. The cabin features the new Spirit digital interface, which debuted on the electric Spectre.

Rolls-Royce’s first electric crossover is expected in early 2027 and will be smaller than the Cullinan. There are also plans to release an electric sedan that could replace the Ghost by 2028.

The Specter, Rolls-Royce’s first electric car, succeeds the Phantom coupe, which was discontinued in 2017. Specter is equipped with two electric motors that develop 584 horsepower and accelerate the car to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds. The 102 kWh battery provides a range of approximately 425 km on a single charge.

In addition, the Ghost crossover will be updated in early 2025 and will continue to be produced until the end of the decade, when it will be replaced by an electric version.
