A year on this “hellish” planet Only 17.5 hours, why?

There’s a planet outside the solar system known as the “Planet of Hell”. The real name of this planet is 55 Cancri e.

The exoplanet has some interesting facts. One of them, the same nickname Planet Hell, is obtained because it has a very hot temperature, so there is an ocean of molten lava there.

The surface temperature of 55 Cancri and reaches 1,982 degrees Celsius. Even so, the planet is thought to be full of diamonds.

55 Cancers and is planet a rock that is eight times the size and twice as wide as Earth. Officially the planet is called Janssen, but it is also referred to as 55 Cancri e or 55 Cnc e.

Quoting from CNN World, 55 Cancri e is 40 light years from Earth. This celestial body orbits very close to its parent star, Copernicus.

Because 55 Cancri e orbits so closely, one orbit around Copernicus takes less than an Earth day. One year on the planet equals 17.5 years on Earth.

Furthermore, the very close orbit is also the reason why Janssen has very high temperatures. The distance so close to its star has also piqued the curiosity of experts to research Janssen further.

Astronomers use a new instrument called EXPRES. This tool is used to determine the precise nature of planetary orbits.

They discovered that the hellish planet orbits Copernicus’ equator. However, it’s not the only one. There are four other exoplanets in different orbits.

Astronomers also believe that Janssen’s orbit initially started from a cooler and more distant orbit before getting that close to Copernicus. The gravitational pull of the equator then changed Janssen’s orbit.

As Janssen approached Copernicus, planet it’s getting even hotter. This discovery was also published in the journal Nature Astronomy under the title “Measure-spin Orbit Alignment of Ultra-short Period Super-Earth 55 Cancri e”.
