The new An-225 will be created on the basis of the unfinished twin brother “Mriya”.
There will be a new Mriya, because the aircraft designers of the Antonov State Enterprise are already working on this, but for now the fuselage of the destroyed aircraft is being dismantled.
In the “Joint Marathon” in the TSN slot, General Designer of the Antonov State Enterprise Vladislav Vlasik said that specialists are looking for surviving parts and structural elements to use them in the new aircraft.
The new An-225, which will be created on the basis of the unfinished twin brother of Mechta, will hardly differ from the destroyed Mriya from the outside, the designers say, but inside it will be a new aircraft with the most modern equipment.
The new Mriya will be even more powerful, at least 10 tons lighter than the previous one, which means that the ship will take even more cargo on board and fly even longer and farther. “Now the design stage is underway, a preliminary technical view of the updated aircraft has already been formed. We understand that the An-225 aircraft must be modernized, that is, restoring it in the state it was in is inexpedient and inappropriate, ”said Vladislav Vlasik.
It will be very expensive to rebuild the An-225, but international donors are already ready to give money. “The restoration of Mriya is the restoration of the country. As soon as the Mriya is built, we can say that the Ukrainian aviation industry and the capacity of Ukraine in general have been built. Here is the Mriya — here it is rebuilt again,” adds Antonov General Designer.
Exactly a year ago, on February 27, Russian paratroopers in Gostomel set fire to our famous Mriya, the An-225 aircraft. Then a fragment of a video with a plane engulfed in fire got on the Web, but for a month no one knew what condition it was in. Until he made his way to Gostomel TSN correspondent Alexander Zagorodniy with Mriya commander Dmitry Antonov. They took amazing pictures, about a dozen unique transport aircraft are completely destroyed or seriously damaged. But the biggest pain is the video footage of the defiled An-225. The cockpit, forward fuselage and even several engines were destroyed.
