A woman named Holly Hodgart (34) living in Scotland sold the first edition of JK Rowling’s world-famous book series Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which she bought in 1997 and which is quite rare today, for exactly 481,000 TL. (£20,000) sold.
London auction house Sotheby’s has also announced that a true first print can be recognized by the serial number “10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1” and the apparent misprint where the words “1 wand” are repeated.
According to the Times’ report, Hodgart said, “When it was put up for auction, the book had no spine, the protective plastic had been peeled off, and the pages had turned yellow. When it finally sold for that price, I was totally shocked because I thought, ‘Who would want this thing?'” used the phrase.
The young woman shared that she was happy with the profit she made and said that she plans to spend the money, which is approximately 361,000 TL (£15,000), which she will have left after paying the auction fees, on a Disney ship in Europe for her two and four-year-old children.
