According to sources, the man had been run over by the garbage collection truck he was working in.
Police said it happened shortly before six on Saturday afternoon on Douglaston Parkway.
Richard Errico was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mayor Adams was on the scene and issued a statement saying in part: “Richard kept our streets and communities safe and clean for over 19 years, and we should all keep Richard and his family in our prayers.”
