On February 28, an application was received from a woman born in 1996 in the Bauska district of the Zemgale Regional Office of the State Police, who informed that the 2004 and 2005 Audi A6 cars had been stolen from the yard of her home in Ceraukste Parish, Bauska District. In addition, the woman stated that the alleged perpetrator could be a man born in 1999.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the police, but during the investigation, law enforcement officers established that the theft had not taken place.
According to the police, the woman has decided to write a complaint about the theft of vehicles for revenge, namely, to obtain the initiation of criminal proceedings against a man born in 1999, because he did not answer her on social media.
The criminal proceedings for the theft of cars were terminated due to the lack of corpus delicti, but criminal proceedings were instituted against the woman for knowingly reporting a criminal offense in order to obtain criminal proceedings against a certain person and for knowingly giving false testimony in pre-trial proceedings. criminal liability for knowingly giving false testimony.
The Criminal Law provides for a penalty for such conduct – temporary deprivation of liberty or supervision of probation, or community service, or a fine.
The State Police urges the population to solve problems of mutual communication without involving the resources of the criminal police, as well as to take into account that when reporting a crime, anyone is warned that they may be prosecuted for making a knowingly false application, as was the case.
