A woman and two men aspire to preside over the Superior Prosecutor of Galicia | Radio Galicia

The interim situation at the head of the Superior Prosecutor of Galicia has the hours counted. This Tuesday, May 4, the Fiscal Council meets to decide a score of appointments, among them, the presidency of the Galician prosecutor’s office. A position for which three applicants choose.

For the first time, a woman is running to head the prosecutor’s office in Galicia. Pilar Fernandez (Ourense, 1966) is a prosecutor specialized in gender violence in Santiago de Compostela. With a degree in law from the USC, with her candidacy she intends to recover the proximity project that led to the creation of the Autonomous Prosecutors’ Offices 14 years ago.

Pilar Fernández, member of the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF), has a long professional career that has earned him recognition such as the Cross of Honor of San Raimundo de Peñafort for his participation in the Equality Commission during his time on the Fiscal Council.

Its commitment to care for victims of gender violence It has even meant the improvement of the infrastructures in the courts of Santiago de Compostela, taking a further step in the protection of this especially vulnerable group.

The current superior prosecutor of Galicia, Fernando Suanzes (Ferrol, 1953) is the third time that he opts for the position. Graduated in law from the University of Santiago, he began his tax career in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from where he accessed the Court of A Coruña, a city in which he has developed his entire professional career.

Belonging to the TSXG Prosecutor’s Office, in 2015 he was appointed Superior Prosecutor of Galicia. He specializes in minors, prison, social and economic crime surveillance and belongs to the conservative Association of Prosecutors (OF).

Another veteran who presents a new candidacy is the Leonese Juan Carlos Aladro. Currently chief prosecutor in the province of Pontevedra, he was responsible for the lawsuit against Ence, and more recently, brought the lawsuit against Audasa for the collection of tolls during the works of Rande. He does not belong to any association and is running for office a second time.
