Argentine wines shone in the nineteenth edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards contest, adding a total of 41 medals in the gold, platinum and Best in Show categories. Among the winners was the wine from San Juan Contracara Reserva Malbec, from Bodegas Callia.
The event, one of the most important in the world and which takes place in London, once again exceeded its record for wines tasted this year, with 18,244 products from 54 countries.
For two weeks, almost 250 international wine experts, including 41 Masters of Wine and 13 Master Sommeliers, awarded 50 Best in Show awards, 165 platinum, 676 gold, 5,900 silver and 8,074 bronze medals.
Argentina enjoyed a particularly successful year with the best showing of medals awarded, tripling its combined share of gold, platinum and Best in Show medals from 14 in 2021 to the current 41.

Argentine wines won four of the 50 Best in Show medals in the competition: Altosur Malbec 2021 from Finca Sophenia; Gran Montaña Malbec Reserva 2020 from Morrisons; Lineage Organic Fairtrade Cabernet Franc 2021 from Pacheco Pereda; and IV Generation Gran Corte 2019 from Bodegas Bianchi.
The 13 platinum medals for Argentine wines exemplify top quality across the board, with seven Super Premium and Icon (over £50) wines receiving 97 points.
These are 2600 Malbec (Puna), Contracara Reserva Malbec (Bodegas Callia), Single Vineyard Organic Malbec (Argento), Tito (Zuccardi), Relatos del Callejón Malbec (La Luz), Callejón del Crimen, Blend de Terroirs Malbec (La Luz ), Callejón del Crimen Single Vineyard Malbec (La Luz), Designated Cabernet Franc (Los Helechos), Single Vineyard Malbec (Rutini), Gran Terroir Cabernet Franc (Zorzal), Gran Enemigo Cabernet Franc (El Enemigo), La Lantern Finca El Tomillo Plot No 1 Chardonnay (Bemberg) and La Linterna Finca La Yesca Plot No 13 Malbec (Bemberg).
