A week kills 50,000 people, WHO warns of spike in Covid-19 cases

KOMPAS.com – World Health Organization ( WHO) warn, case corona virus it can spike in winter and it won’t go away easily.

This statement was revealed after about 50,000 people died because of this Covid-19 in a week.

“This is not the situation we want,” said Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Program Mike Ryan during a press conference at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland as reported CNBC, Friday (18/9/2020).

WHO officials see an alarming trend of increasing Covid-19 cases.

Many countries, including regions in the northern hemisphere and many developing countries are also preparing more ICUs and hospitalizations to deal with the surge in cases.

“This is not a desirable situation, where the northern hemisphere is entering winter. This situation is also undesirable for developing countries with health services under pressure for the past nine months,” added Ryan.

Ryan said, the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus will still last a long time on earth.

“It (Covid-19) will not go away, especially for countries that are starting to enter winter and more people gather in the same room,” Ryan said.

He said that there are many things that must be done to avoid a spike in cases, reduce transmission of Covid-19, protect school openings, and protect the most vulnerable groups in society from severe disease and death.

European health officials have warned in the last few weeks about the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.
