A weather forecaster revealed what winter awaits us

According to the weather forecaster of TV-MET Petar Yankov, a relatively warm winter awaits us. He stated this in an interview with Monitor.

According to him, more serious snowfall can be expected between November 27th and 29th.

Yankov claims that a normal winter with more snow in December awaits us. According to him, January will be relatively warm, but snowy. Warming promises to have in February and March.

– Mr. Yankov, how long will we enjoy the warm weather?

– From Monday this week (November 8) begins a period of longer and drier weather. Between Monday and Wednesday there are conditions for reduced morning visibility and fog along the rivers and the Upper Thracian lowlands.

Until November 15, the weather will be dry, the so-called “poor summer” will be underway, because the morning temperatures will be low, and during the day the temperatures will be in the range of 15-20 degrees and the outerwear will be unnecessary during this period.

But the “poor summer” according to the long-term forecasts, which we, the weather forecasters, find very difficult to give, because we are coming out of the 15-day period of numerical forecasts that are being made at the moment.

There will be a significant cooling from November 15th to 18th with a sharp drop in temperatures in Eastern Bulgaria, but in the Fore-Balkans there is a high probability that the rain will turn into snow, but this will be short-lived. In the long run, the next more serious rainfall will be in this period.

– When will we enjoy the first snow?

– A more dynamic time follows in the third ten days of November. Rainfall is expected around the 25th and 26th. Between the 27th and the 29th we will already be competing with the hesitant forecasts for more serious snowfalls in the settlements as well. This is the period of the first more serious snowfalls in the settlements.

They will not be durable. The beginning of December is expected to be rainy and with the first more serious accumulations of snow in the mountains, which will create a basis for further increase of the snow cover, especially in the mountains.

Whatever the temperature, it always snows in the mountains. Temperatures are between 4-5 degrees at over 2500 meters. At these temperatures, every rain turns into wet snow. There is nothing unusual. The situation is very changeable.

Exactly at the end of this month is expected to pass a Mediterranean cyclone centered over Greece, which creates a more humid environment in the mountains and southern Bulgaria and the combination with colder air coming from northwestern Bulgaria will create a complex meteorological environment, but until then there is time, the forecasts may change.

I am in favor of shorter-term forecasts.

– Can we say that this fall will be more volatile than last year?

“I don’t think so.” I want to apologize to all readers, as the forecasts for October of all Bulgarian climate centers failed.

We interpret the forecasts we receive from climate centers in Canada and the United States. All forecasts for Eastern Europe have failed.

I hope that the forecasts for November will come true and have a positive assessment. After all, such failures serve forecasters as road signs that guide adjustments and future forecasting work. But really this fall is more dynamic than the previous ones. Autumn usually develops more casually.

– What temperatures can we expect this winter? Will it be softer or harsher?

– A normal winter with more snow in December. January will be relatively warm but snowy. There will be warming in February and March. So the winter is expected to be relatively warm.

– According to the forecasts, what winter season can we expect? Will there be enough snow to offer good conditions for winter tourism?

– There will be ideal conditions for the winter tourist season in our country. All ski resorts offer artificial snow production. Our specialists who maintain these systems are at a high level.

So in any case there will be conditions for fans of white sports, even in the most difficult situation. But for now, as I said, an accumulation of natural snow cover in the mountains is expected to begin in early December. I think the season will be successful because the restrictions there are small.

There will be snow, but care must be taken. I often contact the rescue teams in Bansko, when I am there, at least one of them suffers more serious injuries to the head or legs.

But I think that the season will be successful, it will be even more successful than last year, in my opinion, because last year there was no snow in December, so far the forecasts are that there will be enough snow in mid-December.
