A weak report for the Ioannina-Kakavia axis from Christos Staikouras

The Minister of Infrastructure Christos Staikouras briefly mentioned the Ioannina-Kakavia road axis, during his presentation of the main projects at the Nautemporiki economic conference.

Regarding the Ioannina-Kakavia axis, the Minister limited himself to saying that “funding has been secured”, but without specifying when the contract will be signed.

Although the Minister had announced in the summer that the contract would be signed in September, this has not happened so far, and with October coming to an end, it has been claimed to Parliament – a necessary step for the progress of the agreement. project – not yet registered.

At the same conference, the Minister said that the E-65 highway will be completed and delivered in the first quarter of 2026.

Staikouras also pointed out that “financial instruments exist” and “recently increased significantly”. He specifically mentioned the Recovery Fund, the NSRF, the stability of the banking system and better performance of the state budget, elements which, he said, enable the management of available resources.

However, he admitted that “these tools are not enough to cover all the planned projects”, stressing the need to consider “smart solutions” such as concessions, saying that Greece already has adequate experience in this area.

Finally, the Minister of Infrastructure noted that “challenges for both the public and the private sector”, such as cancellations, show the need for the continuous preparation of the state, so that the projects proceed faster.
