A giant rubber duck race will take place this Sunday on the artificial river of Vichy. A wacky concept but organized for a good cause. Proceeds will be donated to charity.
It’s a race that promises to be original and fun to say the least. 20,000 plastic ducks will be released this Sunday, June 4 on the artificial river of Vichy. This duck race is a giant lottery that will allow one lucky winner to win a car.
What is the principle ? Participants can buy numbered plastic ducks, at a unit price of 3 euros. It’s all about luck and chance in this frantic race. Several rounds will follow one another until the grand finale.
Rubber ducks to do a good deed
Over 10,000 rubber ducks have already been sold. There are 18 points of sale in Vichy and its surroundings, it will also be possible to buy a duck on the day of the competition.
The objective of this duck race: to raise funds for charitable actions. The profits will be used to buy joëllettes, these are hiking chairs for people with reduced mobility. They will be made available on request and accessible to all.
Duckraces all over the world
This is the first time that a Duck race has been organized in Vichy. This concept was launched in the 1990s in Canada by rotary and was then exported to Europe. Duck breeds now exist all over the world. Here are some videos of these original races:
