The pilgrimage ceremony was canceled for the first time in nearly 50 years and replaced by live broadcasts of portions of the statue of the Virgin’s journey from Buenos Aires to the Church of Our Lady of Lojan, 70 kilometers west of the capital.
Some devotees carried the statue in the streets of some neighborhoods by while they were wearing full protective clothing to protect against Corona Virus.–
The trip usually brings more than a million pilgrims who accompany the statue of the Virgin each year in one of the largest cultural and religious sights in Argentina.
Argentina has recorded about 17,000 deaths and more than 751,000 cases of Covid-19, according to statistics from Johns Hopkins University.
Argentine President Alberto Fernandez had said that Argentina and Mexico would participate in the production of millions of doses of a vaccine for the Corona virus, which was developed by the University of Oxford in Britain with the giant pharmaceutical company, “Astra Zinka” for Latin America.
Fernandez added that his country and Mexico will be responsible for producing the vaccine developed by the prestigious British University and the Swedish-British Medicines Group in Latin America once it obtains regulatory approval.
“This will allow timely and adequate access to the potential vaccine for all countries in the region,” the Argentine president said in a press conference.—
