A village goes blank

Mayor Georges Balbuzard is at his wits’ end. The agricultural crisis has also reached the farmers in his tranquil village of Mêle-sur-Sarthe in Normandy. But their numerous protests neither arouse the interest of those responsible in Rouen nor in Paris. So Balbuzard decides to take matters into his own hands. He just doesn’t really know how yet.

When the famous photographer Blake Newman happens to come to Mêle-sur-Sarthe, all problems seem to be solved and the necessary attention is guaranteed. Because Newman wants to realize his new spectacular photo project here of all places and even involve the farmers. If there wasn’t one more little thing that Mayor Balbuzard still has to convince everyone about: the farmers should take off their clothes for the photo.

Director Philippe Le Guay, who already worked with the comedies “Only for Staff!” and “Molière on a Bicycle” enchanted his audience, takes a humorous look into the French soul with “A Village Pulls Bare”. France’s cinema star François Cluzet (“Pretty Best Friends”, “Little True Lies”) shines in the role of the rebellious mayor Balbuzard. Toby Jones (“Berberian Sound Studio”, “Empire of Light”) causes quite a stir in the French provinces as an eccentric American photographer. The charming comedy was photographed by Jean-Claude Larrieu (“The Bookshop of Florence Green”, “The Secret Life of Words”).
