In the Baltic Sea near the Åland Islands, the Viking Line ferry Viking Grace ran aground on Saturday, the Finnish Coast Guard announced on Twitter.
The ship, which was scheduled to call at the port of Mariehamn in the Dutch capital on its way from Stockholm to Turku in Finland, has 331 passengers and 98 crew members. According to the Finnish authorities, the ferry is not leaking and people are not in danger at the moment.
Viking Grace is a large ferry that can accommodate 2,800 passengers. In strong winds, it settled on the shore near the shore for unknown reasons.
In two months, this is the second accident of its kind to hit the Viking Line ferry. On September 20, on the way from Turku to Stockholm, the company’s ferry “Amorella” with 200 passengers and 80 crew members ran aground in the same area. People did not suffer in the incident.
