A Video of Nîmes Handball Team’s “Dear Father Christmas” Goes Viral after Subsidy Loss

They don’t give up. Faced with the decision of Nîmes Métropole to cut its subsidies to women’s handball, football, volleyball and basketball clubs, the players continue their fight off the field, on social networks.

Handball, football, volleyball and basketball, a few months ago, four women’s clubs in the metropolis of Nîmes had their subsidies withdrawn.

This decision was reportedly made by the community due to the lack of “media showcase” that these clubs bring him. But for their part, the women’s clubs denounce this abolition of financial aid which they describe as “discriminatory” since this aid has been maintained for male sports clubs.

One thing is certain, the four clubs do not hear it that way: their 1,200 licensees fight tirelessly against this decision taken by Franck Proust, the president of Nîmes Métropole.

On Instagram and on Facebook, the Bouillargues women’s handball team, which plays in the second division, published a video of the players posing in turn in front of the cages to denounce this decision by writing a letter to Santa Claus. This video has been viewed over a million times on social media.

Following the announcement of this decision, the clubs launched a petition few months ago. Now, the Bouillargues handball club has moved on to another stage: it has opened an online kitty effective until January 15 in order to collect as many donations as possible.
