a very strong increase in cases in Occitania

The epidemic is gaining ground. “The number of Covid cases is increasing sharply and almost everywhere in Occitania at the heart of this fifth epidemic wave. The rate of change in epidemiological indicators testifies to this extremely rapid progression”, underlines the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie in its latest situation bulletin of Tuesday, November 30, 2021. In the region, the incidence rate is currently 327.3 cases over seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. He was only 187 last week.

In the departments of Occitanie, incidence rates have increased rapidly. The most of these epidemic indicators have doubled in just a few days. But some territories are more affected by the virus. This is the case of the Hautes-Pyrénées. The department has an incidence rate of 499 cases, up from 242.9 seven days earlier. The Hérault also has an incidence rate above 400. The other territories register between 300 and 350 cases over seven days for 100,000 inhabitants, except Lozère (124.5), Tarn (202.9) and Aude (211.4). The first department even saw its incidence rate drop.

The impact on the hospital system is also increasing

The positivity rate (the proportion of positive tests among all tests) is also on the rise. It is 6.2%, against 4.9% last week. On average, 2,864 positive cases per day have been reported to the Health Insurance teams since last Tuesday in Occitanie. In total, 20,047 cases were recorded from 23 to 29 November 2021. Nearly 301,000 tests have been carried out over the past seven days in the region. They are increasing since 212,000 were carried out last week. Epidemic indicators are not the only ones to deteriorate.

“The hospital impact is also progressing very strongly”, indicates the ARS. This Tuesday, November 30, 878 hospitalizations were in progress (99 more compared to last Friday). “In seven days, hospitals have 32% of additional patients hospitalized due to a serious case of Covid,” notes the Regional Health Agency. There are also more patients in critical care services. Yesterday, 208 people were in intensive care (41 more in four days). This represents an increase of 52% in one week, “without the epidemic peak having yet been reached,” warns the ARS.

The number of hospital admissions is on the rise

Hospital blood pressure has now reached 44%. It is likely to intensify. The number of hospital admissions has jumped and is significantly higher than the number of discharges. As of November 30, CovidTracker records an average of 75.7 admissions for 47 departures, including six deaths. Since last Friday, 19 are to be deplored in health establishments. Faced with this, the Regional Health Agency renews its call to respect barrier gestures and vaccination.

“The message has been heard in view of the strong increase in the scheduling of appointments for the booster dose in Covid vaccination centers and among local professionals”, notes the ARS. In all, 745,080 people have already received a third injection vaccine in Occitania. That’s 100,000 more in four days. The rate of first-time injections is also progressing, but much more slowly. Since the start of the vaccination campaign, more than 9.3 million doses have been administered. In the region, 4.6 million people received a first injection vaccine, or 92.8% of people over 18 and 79.7% of the general population.
