Jin, the oldest member of K-pop group BTS, will do his duty and do his mandatory military service in South Korea.
The 30-year-old star posted a photo of herself in her new military haircut. “He looks cuter than I expected,” she captioned the post. South Korea is technically still at war with neighboring North Korea, and because of this all men have to go through a barracks. Jin begins five weeks of training in a camp near the North Korean border. The BBC reports that he will then be deployed on the front lines.
This news shocked her millions of fans. It is interesting in what conditions the star will live. At Yeoncheon Camp, where Jin is stationed, recruits sleep on mats on the floor in rooms of 30 people. It is reported that after training, Jin will be deployed near the North Korean border in a front-line unit.
For months, there was speculation that the government would allow BTS members to skip the service on the basis that they earned their country billions of dollars and that it would be more profitable to allow them to continue doing so.
However, in October, the band members announced that they were all planning to join the military. Jin, being the oldest, will go first.
There was a special division for celebrities where they could continue working as artists and received a variety of privileges. However, in 2013, the two-tier system was abolished after some of them were found to be abusing and leaving the barracks more often than allowed.
