The US general in charge of the Middle East region visited Syria today to meet with US soldiers and US-backed Syrian Kurdish forces (SDF), the US military said.
Gen. Eric Kurila, the head of the US military’s Middle East Command (Centcom) was briefed “first hand” on force protection measures, the rapidly evolving situation and “ongoing efforts to prevent the Islamic State from taking advantage of the current situation ” states the announcement.
It is worth noting that despite the promises of peace in the region, the Kurds have been attacked by organizations close to Turkey as well as by the Turkish armed forces.

After the visit to Syria, General Kurila visited Baghdad where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani where they discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation, the rapidly changing situation in Syria, as well as operations against the Islamic State in Iraq.
