A unique quarantine method for arriving in Abu Dhabi

Passengers arriving from abroad at Abu Dhabi airport will have to wear a tracking wristband during the 14-day mandatory quarantine introduced in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Reuters reports on Thursday (September 17), citing the state-owned airline Etihad Airways.

The airlines remind that people arriving in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates are required to undergo a two-week self-isolation, which can be done at home or – in the event of arrival from a high-risk country – at a government medical institution.

During quarantine, it will be compulsory to wear a wristband, which is provided by the authorities and approved by the local medical services, the airline said.

Currently, only UAE nationals or residents with a valid visa can fly to Abu Dhabi, while foreigners wishing to enter the country must use the airport in Dubai, Reuters reminds.

The number of newly diagnosed SARS-CoV-2 infections in the UAE this month is at its highest since the outbreak began. The authorities largely blame those who do not respect the principle of keeping distances from other people for the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the agency reports.

According to the Ministry of Health data from September 10, 12 percent. cases of new infections in the last two weeks were related to people coming from abroad, and 88% with people gathering in large groups.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in the UAE, 82,568 people have been infected with the coronavirus, 402 of whom have died and 72,117 have recovered, the official government website said on Thursday (September 17).
