Inspired by the works of the artist Mark Rothko, the production together with colleagues from the Daile Theater and an international team was created by one of the most challenging young Polish directors in the world of European theater, who boldly combines theater with video and music in his performances.
“The director, playwright, video artist and composer is from Poland, the set designer is French, the costume designers are from Germany, the lighting designer is Lithuanian. Most of the actors are from Daile Theater, but two great Polish actors from JK Opole Theater in Poland are also participating in the show. “As well as two non-professional Chinese actors from Riga. cooperation with the company LMT, as well as the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the JK Opole Theater.
Mark Rothko and his works of art are the prism through which to show the XXI century. intangible capitalism, where the value of things is revealed in the definitions of capitalism itself – they distinguish the true from the “fake”, the authentic from the counterfeit and the original from the imitation, says Lukash Tvarkovsky: “Rothko’s art and his biography assumptions: a person can become a commodity, art merges with the market, spirituality is preached according to the laws of capitalism, and at the same time everything is the other way around. “
Today, the boundaries between works of art, their copies, the artist’s reputation and the technological development of the art market are becoming increasingly blurred. Fake and original, as well as their paradoxical metastases in the virtual environment, are the central theme of the show’s story. The show explores what the new trend really means – creating works of art in the digital environment and providing them with blocking technology. What is the significance of the artist’s work? And is the direct experience of theatrical art protected from such market principles? It is because of these questions and suggesting the replacement of famous brands with counterfeits, the name of the show Rotkho deliberately designed to confuse the viewer, the English surname of the artist is correctly spelled Rothko.
According to the creators of the show, a unique artistic event in Latvia consists of drama, directing, scenography and acting in a synthesis with the technological solutions used in TV and cinema. The show experiments with video and light, revealing the interaction between the mystery of physical art and virtual art, a copy of duplicate art.
