A bomb on a railway line has stopped trains in Russia’s Samara region. The accident happened around 5 o’clock this morning near or on the railway bridge over the Chapaevka river. The incident was reported by the Russian media, including the TASS agency.

The Ukrainian intelligence (GUR) confirmed its operation – an attempt to blow up a railway bridge across the Chapaevka river in the Samara region. “Russia uses the railway line to transport military cargo, including engineering munitions produced by the Polymer plant in the city of Chapaevsk, Samara region,” the GUR statement said.

According to Russian media, the explosion occurred around 5 am on the railway bridge over the Chapaevka River. The movement of trains on the bridge has been stopped. Russian Railways said five trains were delayed due to the incident: two trains from Moscow to Samara, as well as Moscow to Orsk, Syzran to Mirnaya and Syzran to Samara.

As reported by the emergency services to Interfax, the interruption of the train schedule occurred “due to illegal intervention of unauthorized persons in the operation of railway transport”. It is noted that the abutments of the bridge were not destroyed, but there was damage to the railway line. The line is being inspected and the repair of the line is being prepared.

According to TASS, however, the preliminary inspection revealed that the fences and supporting structures of the bridge near the shore were damaged.
